The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a fresh set of strict rules for the 2026 IPL season, focusing on player safety, hotel security, and maintaining the reputation of the tournament.
In a detailed seven-page advisory issued to all IPL franchises, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia warned teams about the growing risks of “honey-trap” incidents, unauthorized hotel access, and situations that could lead to legal controversies involving players or support staff.
BCCI Warns Teams To Stay Alert During IPL 2026
According to the BCCI, high-profile sporting events often attract unwanted attention and security risks. The board advised franchises to remain cautious and proactive throughout the season to avoid incidents that may harm the image of the league.
The advisory stressed that franchise management must closely monitor player safety, guest access, and off-field activities during the tournament.
Surprise Hotel Room Checks To Be Conducted
To enforce the new rules, the BCCI has formed a special task force consisting of members from the BCCI and IPL Operations team.
This task force will conduct surprise inspections and hotel room checks during the IPL season to ensure that all franchises follow the guidelines properly.
Team managers have also been instructed to maintain records of approved guest visits, hotel entries, and player movements.
Outsiders Not Allowed In Player Rooms Without Approval
One of the key rules mentioned in the advisory is that no outsider will be allowed inside a player’s hotel room without prior permission from the team manager.
The restriction applies regardless of the visitor’s relationship with the player or official. The BCCI stated that franchises must strictly control hotel access to avoid security risks and unnecessary controversies.
Players Must Inform Officials Before Leaving Hotels
The new guidelines also require all players and support staff members to inform the Security Liaison Officer (SLO), Team Integrity Officer (TIO), and team management before leaving the hotel premises.
Whether the movement is personal, recreational, or official, prior communication and approval are now mandatory under the updated IPL regulations.
Strict Action For Rule Violations
The BCCI has made it clear that any violation of these protocols will be treated as a serious disciplinary issue.
Franchises, players, or officials found breaking the rules could face:
- Financial penalties
- Show-cause notices
- Suspension from IPL activities
- Possible disqualification under BCCI and IPL regulations
The board also reserved the right to conduct audits and inspections throughout the season to monitor compliance.
Dugout Communication Restrictions Added
Apart from hotel security rules, the BCCI has also instructed franchise owners not to communicate directly with players or team management from the dugout during matches.
This move is aimed at maintaining professional conduct and preventing unnecessary interference during games.
